I need help with cars and dashcams.

Kinja'd!!!

First up is cars. Is the Supercharged 3800 cars/Regal GS reliable? Any common problems?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Next is how is the Diamante Wagon? It looks pretty good in an early 1990's JDM wagon sorta way.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Now to the dashcams:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It’s cheap, but is it any good? It’d be for future car. But 1080p with 2 hours of recording time is pretty good.

Dashcam: buy the Mini 0805!

Both I and a friend have been using them for about a year so far, and not a single hiccup has occurred (which is not that common among dashcams). It’s a very compact unit, and the black color will keep it from being noticed outside. Also, the online authority on dashcams, DashCamTalk.com, recommends the 0805 over even the newer models in that line...

The cameras they recommend are at the top of the page linked below. Tons of other info on there, very much worth a look:

The Regal will be relatively reliable, but with GM quality everywhere else. Poor fit and finish/materials and you’ll probably have to replace a lot of worn suspension components. A CL ad that doesn’t list mileage usually means it has way too many, and the broken English usually means it was owned by someone very apathetic.

I’ve always liked the looks of those Diamante wagons. I know nothing else about them, but with the price, miles, generally clean appearance and coherently written ad, that’s the one I’d buy.

Do you have a link for a cheapish 0805?

On dashcams, I haven’t had experience with that particular one. 2 hours of recording is with the included 8gb card, so you can definitely expand with a bigger card. If you’re buying a microSD card, be sure to get a Class 10 or similar, to handle the bitrate of 1080p video.

I had the GT680W . I liked it, but it broke after about a year. However, I got lucky with the Amazon reseller (I believe it was the seller in the link above), and they gave me a straight-up refund after I contacted them about the problem.

Then I moved on to the Mobius . It’s a bit less user-friendly, since it has no built-in screen. You can’t point it as precisely when mounting unless you have a laptop hooked up to look at it in real time, but the wide lens means you can eyeball the install and get a good result. It’s really tiny, too. The suction-cup mount is bigger than the camera itself, which is great. I mounted it to the right of the rear view mirror, and from the drivers seat it’s like nothing’s there. One issue was in the summer - during some hot days the plastic camera body heated up so much that it deformed/bulged a little. The battery was fine and it didn’t affect camera performance, it still works perfectly fine.

P.S. I hated having wires hanging from the cigarette lighter to the cam, so I ended up tapping into switched power above the rear view mirror. Most cars tend to have some sort of switched power going through under the headliner, either for the sunroof, lights, or something else. It should be fairly easy to do on most cars, and makes the install much cleaner.

Yeah, I’d agree. But that Regal is super clean for the price...

Also, the Diamante is ~45 mins away, while the Regal is ~20 mins.

Absolutely:

That’s where both my friend and I bought ours. Some places will sell you a fake one, but this isn’t one of those places.

I forgot to mention, the 32gb (class 10) card it takes is good for at least a day or two of recording time @ 1296p, in my experience.

The transmissions for those supercharged 3800s don’t typically last more than 100k, so be weary of that. I’m not certain I would consider them reliable. My Pontiac Grand prix left me stranded a couple times and I put quite a bit of money into it, before selling it at 110k miles.

I betcha with the condition it’s at about 100k. Thanks for the warning!

OMG that Diamante would buy in a heartbeat. Super clean, low miles, wagon, I don’t even care that it’s an auto since the Diamante was supposed to be a luxury flagship anyway. Not sure on reliability and I do love a good S/C Regal (especially in that burgundy wine), but the Mitsu would be my choice here.
